Fairy Godmothers Fund Grants
Fairy Godmothers fund grants are intended to address needs that are not currently addressed by other social service and assistance agencies in the Manhattan area. Local women in need may apply for a grant, which is valued up to $1,000 maximum. Women may earn one grant every three years.
How to apply for a grant
In order to apply for a Fairy Godmothers Grant, women should:
- Review the applicant eligibility and requirements listed below.
- Start the grant application process by first reaching out to Shepherd’s Crossing, the partner organization that processes all Fairy Godmothers fund grant applications. Shepherd’s Crossing will guide you through the process directly.
Applicant eligibility, requirements and policies
- Applicants apply directly to Shepherd’s Crossing.
- Applicants must be a woman 18 years of age or older.
- Men seeking assistance should view opportunities available through the Guardians.
- Applicants must be a resident of the city of Manhattan and/or Riley County, Kansas or Saint George, Kansas and be able to demonstrate that residency has been established for at least one year (12 months) prior to grant application.
- Applicants will be asked to provide employment status.
- Women who are able-bodied and capable of working but not currently employed may not be eligible for grant assistance.
- Successful applicants will demonstrate need(s) not addressed by other social service agencies in the Manhattan area.
- Ineligible requests include food, lodging and utilities, assistance with legal penalties (such as a speeding ticket or a DUI).
- A Fairy Godmothers fund grant can be offered to any individual eligible woman one time every three years.
What to expect if you’re selected for grant support
- Applications are approved by the Fairy Godmothers Grants Committee and the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation (GMCF) Executive Board. If approved, funds are typically available within 72 hours after a complete application is submitted.
- Funds are paid directly to providers of requested services and needs.
- Recipients are asked to help someone else in the future through a pay-it-forward principle.
