    2017 Grow Green / Match Day

    Who:  Current Fairy Godmothers or women wanting to join Fairy Godmothers

    What:  Grow Green/Match Day -- A day set aside to pay yearly dues or make donations to Fairy Godmothers and earn a 50 percent match up to $20,000.  

    Where:  Colony Square Atrium
                    555 Poyntz Avenue
                    Manhattan, Kansas 

    When:  April 21, 2017 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Why:  This is an opportunity to grow Fairy Godmothers' Endowments to enrich our programs for even great impact for years to come and assist with annual campaigns. On this day, the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation will provide a 50 percent match on donations made to participating endowment funds.

     This years Annual Celebration will include an Auction with the theme of "Experience This...".  Please bring an auction item to the annual meeting.  Put your imagination to work!  It can be a stay in a condo/cabin; a dinner; a spa day; a wine tasting event in your home; a basket of goodies for a pet; a wine basket; a chocolate basket; or...??? 

    The evening will also include a "BAKE WALK" and we are in need of baked items.  If you would like to donate a cake, cookies, or other baked items it would be much appreciated!

    10th Annual Lingerie Luncheon

    Location: Manhattan Arts Center

    The 10th Annual Lingerie Luncheon, a visible and tangible way for Fairy Godmothers to see how our donations benefit women in our community, was held on Nov. 16, 2016, at the Manhattan Arts Center. Weis Realty and Art Craft Printer sponsored the event.

    Approximately 100 Fairy Godmothers attended the luncheon and brought items valued at more than $5,000. Items donated included pajamas, undergarments, scarfs, slippers and socks. Representatives from Homestead Ministry, Crisis Center, Big Lakes Developmental Center and the Manhattan Emergency Shelter were present to accept the donations from the Fairy Godmothers.

    Judy Hughey and Cindy Zapletal, co-chairs of the Connections Committee, recognized those who attended the lingerie event for each of the past 10 years. Recognition was also given to the original founding Fairy Godmothers for their foresight in organizing such a group. The event could not be held in the same manner without the support of our sponsors and help from Blue Stem Bistro and Manhattan Arts Center. Appreciation was expressed for the financial assistance and support provided for the event. The Connection Committee was recognized and thanked for coordinating the lingerie luncheon. The luncheon concluded with the awarding of door prizes.

    The focus and direction of the Connections Committee continues to be strategies to engage our new and existing Fairy Godmothers through event participation and membership renewal.

    Fairy Godmothers and Guardian Angels Charity Golf Tournament

    Location: Colbert Hills

    Date: Sep 19, 2016

    The 2016 Fairy Godmothers Charity Golf Tournament was held at Colbert Hills in cooperation with The Guardians. These two groups joined forces to raise $35,979.91 which was split between the two groups. The Fairy Godmothers raised $17,989.96 to support women in the community who need a helping hand.

    Community 1st Bank once again was the title sponsor. Rob Stitt and his staff were wonderful to work with and generous with their support of the annual golf tournament.

    The Manhattan business community again got behind the tournament with 10 corporate sponsors, 10 flight sponsors, two beverage sponsors, 18 hole sponsors, numerous proximity-prize and box lunch sponsors. We had 96 golfers participate, and the feedback was that everyone had a great time.

    A special thank you to the women who  served on the 2016 Golf Tournament Committee. Their hard work ensured the success of this year's tournament.

    Annual Fairy Godmother Golf Tournament

    Location: Manhattan Country Club

    The 2015 Fairy Godmothers Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 14 was a huge success, with over $34,000 raised to support women in our community who occasionally need a helping hand.  Community 1st Bank once again stepped up as our title sponsor -- Rob Stitt and his staff were wonderful to work with and very generous with their support of this annual golf tournament.  The Manhattan business community once again got behind us with 10 corporate sponsors, seven flight sponsors, three beverage sponsors, 10 hole sponsors, numerous proximity prize and boxed lunch sponsors and donations from over 45 individuals and businesses for the silent auction.  With the addition of the raffle of a beautiful amethyst and diamond ring, generously donated by Bobbi French with G. Thomas Jewelers, and a cocktail hour with jazz music added to this year's evening festivities, a good time was had by all.  A very special thank you to the 15 women who served on the 2015 golf tournament committee whose hard work and dedication ensured the success of this year's tournament.

    Lingerie Luncheon 2014

    The 8th Annual Lingerie Luncheon, sponsored by New Boston Creative Group, was held on November 19, 2014, at the Manhattan Arts Center. More than 85 Fairy Godmothers attended the luncheon and brought items valued at more than $5,850. Items donated included pajamas, undergarments, scarves, slippers, socks and fleece blankets. Representatives from Crisis Center, Big Lakes Developmental Center and the Manhattan Emergency Shelter were present to accept the donations from the Fairy Godmothers.
     
    Judy Hughey and Ann Knackendoffel, Co-Chairs of the Connections Committee, gave remarks at the luncheon. In addition to bringing us together, the Lingerie Luncheon provides a very visible and tangible way for Fairy Godmothers to see how our donations benefit women in our community. Examples of grants funded by Fairy Godmother donations this past year were shared and recognition and appreciation was expressed to the local businesses who help underwrite the grants. Members were encouraged to support these local businesses. Everyone was asked to think of someone they know who is not yet a Fairy Godmother and invite them to join us at the next Wanderful Wednesday event. Judy and Ann invited everyone bring their spouses and male friends to the K-State Game Watch Party sponsored by the newly formed Guardian group which is the men’s version of our organization. The luncheon concluded with the awarding of door prizes.

    2014 Fairy Godmothers Charity Golf Tournament

    The 8th annual golf tournament was held on October 6th at Colbert Hills Golf Course, with net proceeds for the Fairy Godmothers of $36,450. This tournament would not be possible without the commitment and support of people and companies in our community for whom we are very grateful. A very special thank you to Robb Stitt and Community 1st Bank, our title sponsor, for their ongoing support and generosity. A big thank you to the 45 local businesses and individuals who supported us through various sponsorships, and kudos to the 76 golfers who participated. A special thank you to Vern, Elaine and Marla with the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation for all of their help and support.

    Grow Green Day, 2014

    Our donations totaled $13,700, with $6,840 in matching funds. We also had the largest number of donors, which brought in another $500.

    The 7th Annual Lingerie Luncheon, sponsored by Capitol Federal Savings,was held on November 20, 2013, at the Manhattan Arts Center. More than 80 Fairy Godmothers attended the luncheon and brought items valued at more than $3120.00. Items donated included pajamas, undergarments, socks and fleece blankets. Administrators from Crisis Center, Big Lakes Developmental Center and the Manhattan Emergency Shelter were present to accept the donations from the Fairy Godmothers 

    Vern Hernricks, Executive Director of the Manhattan Community Foundation, gave opening remarks at the luncheon. His remarks were followed with general examples of grants funded by Fairy Godmother donations. The luncheon concluded with the awarding of door prizes.

    Earth Day-GROW GREEN EVENT

    The amount raised for the Fairy Godmothers at Grow Green on April 22, 2013 was $8,604!

    We also had the largest number of Grow Green donors, 83, which won an additional $500 for Fairy Godmothers!

    6th Annual Lingerie Luncheon

    Location: Manhattan Arts Center

    The 6th Annual Lingerie Luncheon was held Nov. 15, 2012.  About 90 fairy godmothers attended and donated items, the estimated value of which was $6,200.

    Our committee is thankful to the many businesses that provided generous support in the form of discounts for lingerie purchases for the event. Those businesses included Dillon’s grocery, Dillard’s and JCPenney at the Manhattan Town Center. In addition to the discount for a purchase, Dillard's gave each Fairy Godmother a gift bag of goodies with their purchase. Katherine’s of Topeka also provided specially needed items at a discount. The committee also thanks Bluestem Bistro for catering a delicious lunch at reduced price.

    The focus and direction of the Connections Committee continues to be creating strategies to engage our new and existing Fairy Godmothers through event participation and membership renewal.

    2012 Central National Bank Charity Golf Tournament

    Location: Colbert Hills Golf Course

    The 6th Annual Golf Tournament was held October 4, 2012, at Colbert Hills, with 18 teams participating. The tournament brought in $20,000 for the Fairy Godmothers. Special thanks also to the Fairy Godmothers Special Events Committee for their hard work and all the sponsors and donors for the golf tournament, drawing and silent auction.

    2012 Tinis, Tapas & Trinkets

    Location: Manhattan Country Club

    The 2012 Tinis, Tapas, & Trinkets event was held on Wednesday, July 25th at the Manhattan Country Club from 6:00 - 9:00pm.

    The event was great fun and an overwhelming success! 

    A big thank you to all who joined us, donated, and helped make the event a truly wonderful evening.

    2011 Lingerie Luncheon

    Location: Manhattan Arts Center

    More than 100 Fairy Godmothers and guests attended the 5th Annual Fairy Godmothers’ Lingerie Luncheon held Nov. 17, 2011, at the Manhattan Arts Center. Special thanks go to Capitol Federal for sponsoring the event.

    Those attending donated pajamas, undergarments, socks, scarves, gloves and toiletries, about $4,800 worth. The donated items were given to the Crisis Center, Big Lakes Developmental Center and the Manhattan Emergency Shelter for distribution to their clients.

    The Connections Committee, which organized the luncheon, received generous support from local and area businesses in the form of discounts on luncheon items or lingerie purchases. Thanks go to Dillon’s, Dillard’s and JCPenney’s at the Manhattan Town Center, and Katherine’s of Topeka.

    Membership pins were presented to several new Fairies, and the Fairy Godmothers’ “Wishing Well” was available for renewal contributions and other donations to the Fairy Godmothers’ Funds.

    The focus of the Connections Committee continues to be event participation, increased membership and membership renewal.
